Fast soil solution nutrient and water dynamics in top- and subsoil. Infoteca-e
RENCK, A.; LEHMANN, J.; KAISER, K.; MARQUES, J.; TEIXEIRA, W. G..
Study for find out the short-term dynamics of applied fertilizer. In a soil pit a data logger system connected to tensiometers and TDR was installed up to a depth of 3.5m under pueraria in an agroforestry system (cupuacu, peach palm, Brazil nut, urucum). After a rainfall event, the soil water suction at 0.1m depth increased immediately, and fast responses were seen even up to a depth of 0.9m. This result may indicate that nutrients may be leached very fast even in these soil with high clay contents. The N concentrations in the soil solution relevantly increased at 0.1m depth during the same time period, as shown for peach palm. First, the ammonium concentrations increased, but nitrate contents followed rapidly indicanting a fast nitrification in the...

SILVA JUNIOR, J. P. da; SILVA, R.; FERNANDES, T.; LEHMANN, J..
Stydy at a laboratory to investigate the effects of litter from different species (Theobroma grandiflorum - cupuacu, Bactris gasipaes - pupunha, Bertholletia excelsa - castanha-do-Para, Bixa orellana - urucum, Pueraria phaseoloides - pueraria) and fertilization with N and P on C, N and P in microbial biomass of the topsoil (0cm-5cm) with high organic C contents and of an underlying horizon (10cm-15cm) with low organic C contents of a Xanthic Ferrasols, in Manaus-AM (Brasil).

Nitrogen use of a mixed tree crop plantation with a leguminous cover crop. Infoteca-e
LEHMANN, J.; SILVA JUNIOR, J. P. da; GEBAUER, G.; SILVA, L. F. da.
Study on two associated frut tree crops take up their N in comparison to a leguminous cover crop in an agroforestry system. Preliminar results showed the pueraria had the highest foliar N content followed by pupunha; cupuacu having less than the other two. One year after application, cupuacu took up more of the applied N in comparison to the total N uptake than pueraria and pupunha as seen from the high &15N values. The amount of 15N taken up in relation to dry matter equaled between the three species, since pueraria had a lot higher N contents. The other sampling dates showed the same tendency.

MENYAILO, O.; LEHMANN, J.; DINISCH, O.; CRAVO, M. D. S.; BAUCH, J.; ZECH, W..
The aim of this study was to find the effect of tree species (Theobroma grandiflorum - cupuacu, Bixa orellana - urucum, Vismia spp, Carapa guianensis - andiroba, Ceiba pentandra - sumauma) used in agroforestry system in Amazonian region and natural forests on the total biomass of heterotrophic microorganisms (BH), in Manaus-AM (Brasil).

Single-tree effects on soil organic matter properties of a xanthic Ferralsol in the central Amazon. Infoteca-e
LEHMANN, J.; CRAVO, M. da S..
Studies on: a) identification soil pools which are sensitive to land-use changes on the terra firme; b) evaluation of the potential of different trees to increase soil organic matter (SOM) contents; and c) elucidation of the the mechanisms of SOM replenishment in Ferralsols of the central Amazon. Conclusions: using aggregate fractionation together with the chemical characterisation of SOM, the processes of incorporation of plant litter into stable SOM could be successfully studied in the strongly aggregated Ferralsol. Thus, it could be shown that aggregation promoted the stabilisation of SOM, but SOM did not incrase aggregate stability. The particulate organic matter was an important and valid indicator of the effects of different organic inputs on SOM...

Soil nutrient amendment with leaves of varying quality. Infoteca-e
FERNANDES, T. P.; SILVA, R. B.; SILVA JUNIOR, J. P. da; LEHMANN, J..
Study on the impact of nitrogen and phosphorus fertilization combined with litter amendment on the microbial biomass ofa xanthic Ferralso. (0cm-5cm and 10cm-20cm). First peliminary results after 18 days of incubation showed that soil amended with P tended to have higher microbial C than soils fertilized with N or the control. This result indicates that nitrogen is probably not limiting microbial biomass growth the most , but rather P.

Soil water availability as affected by the cover crop Pueraria phaseoloides in the central Amazon. Infoteca-e
MARQUES, J.; TEIXEIRA, W. G.; LEHMANN, J..
Study on the effects of the cover crop pueraria on soil water cycling, in Manaus-AM (Brasil). Partial results showed that under the experimental conditions, there was a higher soil water availability under the cover crop that in bare soil due to reduced evaporation from the soil surface. Under these conditions, a cover crop may play an important role in water conservation and hence crop production on Xanthic Ferralsols of the central Amazon.
